This section is for my older wood and early portable sets. Portable radios were defined by having a self contained battery & antenna. Some portables could plug into household outlets as well.
This section is dedicated to "Farm Sets". These were manufactured for homes still not on" the grid". All required antenna wires 60 feet or longer. Some used 90 volt battery packs while others were designed to run off of a 6 volt tractor battery.
Bakelite is a predecessor to the modern plastics. It was widely used in radios produced between the early 30's & mid 50's.
With the advent of modern plastics, the industry opened up a world of colors.
This section covers portables from the early 50's into the mid sixties. They were powered by many different size and voltage of batteries. Many could be plugged into household voltage as well. These are all tube radios in this section.
A small collection of transistors starting with a few early shirt pocket radios.
